Information on Computer Certificate Courses
Introduction

There is an enormous demand for manpower in the field of Information Technology and Computers, both in the local as well as global market. In order to meet the future challenges in this sector, proper ground work need to be done to have adequately trained manpower at all levels.

Taking advantage of the prevailing demand for the computer courses, various organizations have started conducting courses with their own syllabus and offering training in their own style. Some of these computer organizations have also been approaching the State Board of Technical Education and Training to recognize their courses and accord affiliation.

Consequent to the decision taken at Vice-Chancellors meeting held in July 1997, and based on the report of the JNT University, the State Board of Technical Education and Training(SBTET) has convened a meeting consisting of representatives from the computer industry and type writing institutions. The committee after deliberations identified 21 computer courses, categorized them in 5 groups, and formulated norms for running computer training courses. The committee had also prescribed certain guidelines /standards to be followed for granting affiliation and recognisation by the SBTET to those institutions. An opportunity is also provided to the recognised type institutions willing to offer any of these identified computer courses with certain concessions in respect of affiliation fee.

Initially with the identification of these computer courses with a detailed syllabus, the Universities, Colleges, Polytechnics and institutions in private sector and other organizations, came under one fold in imparting the training in computer courses by adopting a common core syllabus.
