Functioning under the administrative control of the Principal Secretary, Women
Development, Child Welfare and Disabled Welfare Department, the Directorate for
the Welfare of Handicapped was established in February 1983.
The main functions of the Directorate are:

Work for rehabilitation of disabled people in the State

Provide education, employment and vocational training, thus helping people with
disabilities obtain jobs

Provide supportive social security measures like un-employment allowance,
pensions etc.,

Set up grievance a redressal mechanism both at the Central and State levels to
address concerns of disabled people in the State
