The Tribal Cultural Research and Training Institute was formed on the basis of
recommendations of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Commission and the
Dhebar Commission.
The main functions of the Institute are:

Conduct ethnographic studies on tribals

Conduct pre-admission and pre-appointment scrutiny of Scheduled Tribes

Verify status claims of students and employees under the Scheduled Tribes quota

Examine representations of communities for inclusion in the list of Scheduled
Tribes
- Monitor the implementation of protective regulations

Organize tribal museums to exhibit and educate the public about tribal cultural
heritage

Help in the preservation of tribal languages, songs, dance, handicrafts etc.
