Nirmithi kendras
Realising the shelter policy of the Government of Andhra Pradesh, A. P. State
Housing Corporation Ltd. (APSHCL) has evolved several shelter delivery mechanisms
A. P. State Housing Corporation thus become a pioneer in low cost housing the
country. To achieve the herculean task of providing shelter within affordable
limits of rural poor, and to facilitate beneficiaries in procurement of building
components at reasonable cost, . A. P. State Housing Corporation established Nirmithi
Kendras (often called as Building Centers funded by Housing and amp; Urban Development
Corporation (HUDCO) New Delhi and Kiranstalt Fur Wideraufbau (KFW, A German Bank).
So, for APSHCL established 22 Nirnithi Kendras in 22 district headquarters and
54 sub Nirmithi Kendras at division level and also one state level. A. P. State
Housing Corporation also mobilised financial resources locally so far to a tune
of 1112. 5 lakhs from other agencies viz. DRDA, , S. C. Corporation, C. B. R. I. APUD
and amp; H. C. , APSHCL are mobilised.
A. P. State Housing Corporation limited has taken-up several training programmes
in NKs in the following trades:
- Masonry.
- Production of pre-cast building components.
- Various techniques in adopting
So, far 9, 085 people (6, 119 - men and 2, 996) are trained in the above
trades. in addition to these, 2200 people were trained in construction for the
low cost sanitary works. the functionaries of APSHCL at different levels have
been trained /oriented towards new concepts like 'self help' and participatory
management. Masons and the people involved in construction are trained for providing
an exposure to cost effective technological advancements and new construction
technologies. A good beginning has been made by training women groups in construction
activities.
Cost effective technology
To meet the demand of building materials and also minimize the cost of construction,
APSHCL is encouraging the production and usage of cost effective and eco friendly
materials by the beneficiaries. Andhra Pradesh is the leader in the entire country,
having a wide network of 77 Nirmithi Kendras/Sub Nirmithi Kendras established
all over the State, spreading the use of such materials and technologies. So
far, Rs. 843. 00 millions worth of building components such as Sand-Cement blocks,
Fal-G blocks, pre-cast door & window frames, cement jallies, RCC rafters
etc. , have been produced and utilised for the Housing Programme taken by the
Corporation. Use of wood is brought down to the minimum. Further, the cost effective
technologies like arch foundation, pile foundation, reinforced brick concrete
foundation, hollow block masonry, fly ash blocks, stone cement block, sand cement
block masonry, modified stabilised mud blocks, Martur slab, RCC filler roofing,
Cuddapah slab roofing etc. , have been promoted for reducing the cost of construction
and early completion of houses. The technologies are is well disseminated into
the market through Nirmithi Kendras. There are many private entrepreneurs engaged
in the manufacturing of cost effective building components in the state.
