Environment Protection Training and Research Institute (EPTRI) was set up as an independent registered society in 1992 with the assistance of the Government of Andhra Pradesh and Government of India which also facilitated the bilateral assistance for technical collaboration between EPTRI and Swedish International Development Agency (Sida).

EPTRI is managed by a Board of Governors that has representatives drawn from leading research organizations, educational institutions, industry and NGOs working in the field of environment besides representatives of the Government of Andhra Pradesh and Government of India.The main objective of EPTRI is to provide training, consultancy, applied research services and advocacy in the area of environment protection to industry, regulatory bodies, Government, NGOs etc.EPTRI as a concomitant of environment protection, undertakes various activities covering environmental issues related to industry, protected areas, biodiversity, urban agglomeration, environmental awareness, human resource development, capacity building and research etc. It serves as a premier agency in advising the State Pollution Control Boards and respective Governments in fixing environmental standards for the industry, in creating awareness and sensitivity and in the cause of its advocacy. An important function is to encourage sustainability in development and to help in preservation of the traditions of communities, the flora and fauna of the region and to document ethno knowledge and biodiversity.EPTRI is a world-class body and is abreast of the wide-ranging areas of international concerns especially on Ozone depletion, climate change, integrated environmental strategies and Clean Development Mechanisms etc. It endeavors to sensitise communities, civil society, Government officials, NGOs and other stakeholders on environment-related issues in the long-term interest of poverty alleviation through employment generation, human development and sustainable environment management.Salient FeaturesEPTRI is an autonomous institution - registered as a Society

EPTRI, provides one-stop solutions to environment issues and offers a wide range of services - laboratory analysis to environment management and an interface between regulation and community participation in preserving and conserving the environment.

ServicesEnvironmental Engineering and Management

EPTRI undertakes projects related to water and wastewater treatment, air pollution control, Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Environment Management Plan (EMP). It also focuses on waste minimization by way of resource / water conservation, segregation etc., through in-plant studies.Environment and Sustainable Development It focuses on achieving a symbiotic relationship between the community and environment concerns which is precisely the National Environment policy. It involves people's participation and social mobilization for ensuring environmental sustainability without losing focus on development processes in consonance with the Agenda 21 document of Rio+10.Environmental Quality Mapping This division is recognized as Center of Excellence in Spatial Environmental Planning with focus on Industrial Planning by Ministry of Environment & Forests, Government of India.Environment Information System (ENVIS) Centre

Environmental Information System (ENVIS), set up by the Ministry of Environment and Forests [MoEF], Government of India, is a decentralised information network of distributed subject oriented centres ensuring integration of national efforts in environmental information collection, collation, storage, retrieval and dissemination.LaboratoryThe laboratory is accredited by the National Accrediation Board for Laboratories (NABL) and recognized by Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, Central Pollution Control Board and Government of Andhra Pradesh. It also serves as a Referral Laboratory.Capacity BuildingEPTRI conducts national and international programmes to impart professional and need based training in environmental field with a wide outreach. The curriculum of the Training programs are conceptualised and formulated keeping pace with the ever changing technologies and regulations to meet the needs of a host of participants.
