Steam generating water at elevated pressure and temperature is explosive in nature and explodes when it is suddenly exposed to Atmospheric Pressure due to failure of Boilers. Such explosion causes destruction of life and property around these Boilers. In view of the hazardous explosive nature of water in Boilers and in consideration of the versatility of use of Boilers in all types and sizes of Industries starting from a tiny edible oil mill to a giant Thermal Power Plant, the Indian Boilers Act, 1923, and Regulations and Rules thereunder, are made to ensure proper design, manufacture, operation and maintenance of Boilers.
