The Directorate for Fisheries deals mainly with the planning and execution of
activities connected with the welfare of fishermen, development of aquaculture,
infrastructure for fish landings, harbours, processing and marketing.
The main functions of the Department are:

Policy formulation, designing and implementing strategies for sustainable
development of the sector

Negotiation with the State and the Central governments, funding agencies, banks
and cooperatives connected with fisheries activity

Inter departmental coordination within the state and with the Government of
India, and co-ordination with institutions connected with fisheries

Promotion and regulation of brackishwater shrimp culture

Enforcement of the Andhra Pradesh Marine Fisheries Act and Rules

Community based enforcement of ban in fishing activity during the breeding
season

Introduction of modern gadgets such as fish finders, Global Positioning Systems
(GPS), remote sensing and GIs, diversification in fishing, and so on
