ORDER:

The Department of Tourism hasidentified Buddhist circuits as an important segment of special interest (Heritate)tourism because of tremendous appeal not only to domestic tourists, but also tointernatiaonal tourists from South-East Asia Particularly Japan, Thailand, Sri Lanka,Singapore etc. It has been decided to develop important Buddhist centres in the Country astourist destinations. with this aim in view, the Government of India appointed a TaskForce Committee to identify Buddhist Centres associated with the life of Buddha. TheSecond Task Force Committee Constituted by Government of India in the year 1987 identified15 Buddhist Centres in Andhra Pradesh for developing tourism.

2. After careful examination,Government have decided to notify Nagarjunasagar and its surrounding areas of Buddhistimportance in the State as a Special Tourism Area in order to develop tourism and for therevival of past Buddhist heritage in the following places in the State.

1. Nagarjunakonda .. Guntur Dist.

2. Chandavaram .. Prakasam Dist.

3. Amaravathi .. Guntur Dist.

4. Bhattiprolu .. Guntur Dist.

5. Ghantashala .. Krishna Dist.

6. Jaggayyapet .. Krishna Dist.

7. Phanigiri .. Nalgonda Dist.

8. Nellakonda Palli .. Khammam Dist.

9. Guntupalle .. E.G.Dist.

10.Sankaram .. Visakhapatnam Dt.

11.Bavi Konda .. Visakhapatnam Dt.

12.Mangamaripeta .. VisakhapatnamDt.

13.Ramathirtham .. Vijayanagaram Dt.

14.Shali Hundam .. Srikakulam Dt.

15.Kondapur .. Medak Dist.

16.Dantavarapukota .. SrikakulamDist.

17.Bojjanakonda .. Visakhapatnam Dt.

3. The Director of Tourism, AndhraPradesh Hyderabad is directed to take immediate steps to prepare the Master Plans forthese above places of Buddhist importance in the State as a Special Tourism Areas (STAS)and specific Project Profiles for funding by different agencies.
