In exercise of the powers conferred by Section 585 of the Hyderabad Municipal Corporation Act, 1955 (Act No.11 of 1956) read with section 14 of the Andhra Pradesh Municipal Corporation Act, 1994 (Act No.25/94), the Governor of Andhra Pradesh hereby makes the following amendment to the Andhra Pradesh Municipal Corporations (Reservation of the offices of Mayor) Rules, issued in G.O.Ms.No. 46, MA&UD Department, dated 6.2.1995:-
For rules 7 and 8 in the said rules the following rules shall be substituted, namely:-
“7.Manner of reservation of offices of Mayors to the Members belonging to Scheduled Tribes and Scheduled Castes and Women
The reservation of offices of Mayor for members belonging to Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Castes and Women in the Municipal corporations of the State shall be made with reference to largest percentage of population of the said category to the total population of the Municipal Corporations in the descending order.
8. Manner of reservation of offices of Mayors to the Members belonging to Backward Classes:
After arriving at the offices of Mayors proposed to be reserved for Scheduled Tribes, Schedule Castes to different offices of Mayors in Municipal Corporations in the State the seats to be reserved for Backward Classes in the remaining offices of Mayors in the Municipal Corporations, shall be on rotation basis with reference to the largest percentage of voters of the said category to the total number of voters of the Municipal Corporation concerned in the descending order.”
